A big step has been taken to improve healthcare in Pune! The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has received a No Objection Certificate (NOC) from the Ministry of Defence (MoD) to build a new multispecialty hospital in Warje, Pune. This hospital will be located near the National Defence Academy (NDA) in an air funnel zone, which airplanes use for landing and takeoff.
Hospital Features and Services
The upcoming PMC hospital in Warje will be a state-of-the-art multispecialty hospital expected to be completed by 2027. It will be developed with a huge investment of ₹380 crores and built on 2.5 acres of land.
Key highlights of the hospital:
- 100-bed Intensive Care Unit (ICU)
- 12 advanced operating theatres
- Departments for cancer, obstetrics and gynaecology (OB-GYN), and other medical specialties
- Mental health care, yoga, physiotherapy, and wellness centres
- A 60,000 sq. ft. healing garden for peaceful recovery
- Full access to government-run health schemes
India’s First Hospital on the Export Credit Model
This will be the first hospital in India built using the Export Credit Model. The investment will come from a Netherlands-based foreign fund, supported by a quasi-government organisation.
As per the agreement:
- 10-20% of beds will be reserved for underprivileged patients
- The hospital will generate annual income for PMC
- Patients will benefit from all state government healthcare schemes
Why This Hospital is Important for Pune
The construction was delayed because the hospital site was in the funnel zone of NDA and Lohegaon Airport, requiring special permission from the MoD. With the help of local leaders, including District Guardian Minister Ajit Pawar, Municipal Commissioner Rajendra Bhosale, and the State Government, the NOC has finally been granted after one year of follow-ups.
Dr. Nina Borade, Chief Health Officer of PMC, confirmed that the project is now moving ahead. The hospital plan has been sent to the MoD, and construction will begin soon.
Healthcare Growth Across Maharashtra
This news comes shortly after Jupiter Hospital announced a 300-bed greenfield hospital in Thane. That project, worth ₹400 crore, will cater to areas like Dahisar, Mira Bhayandar, and Vasai Virar, which currently lack proper medical facilities.
✅ What This Means for Doctors and Patients
This new multispecialty hospital in Pune will bring world-class healthcare closer to communities. It will also offer doctors an opportunity to work in a well-equipped setup backed by international funding and government support.
