UP Government Orders Mandatory Fire Safety Upgrades in All Hospitals After Lucknow Fire Incident

In response to a recent fire at Lokbandhu Rajnarayan Combined Hospital in Lucknow, the Uttar Pradesh government has taken serious steps to strengthen fire safety protocols in all hospitals across the state. On April 14, a massive fire broke out, triggering the evacuation of around 200 patients and raising urgent concerns about hospital safety standards.

🔥 What Happened?

The fire incident led to a high-level review by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath and an on-site inspection by Deputy Chief Minister Brajesh Pathak. Following this, a five-member committee was formed under the Director General of Medical and Health Services to investigate the cause and propose solutions.

The committee has now submitted its report, and Deputy CM Pathak has directed immediate implementation of its recommendations in all state-run medical facilities.

🧯 Key Fire Safety Measures Recommended

Here are the urgent fire safety upgrades recommended for all hospitals:

  • Regular fire exit mock drills with full staff participation
  • Installation of standard fire-fighting systems
  • Natural and pressurised ventilation in staircases and ramps
  • Keeping evacuation routes free from blockages like tin sheds and glass panels
  • Setting up fire alarms, smoke and heat detectors, and clear exit signage
  • Ensuring proper electrical wiring with no spliced joints and maintaining dual power sources
  • Training all hospital staff to use fire safety equipment
  • Creating resident accommodations for patients and their attendants to ensure safe evacuation

The goal is to create safe, well-ventilated, and fire-ready healthcare environments across Uttar Pradesh.

⚠️ Why This Matters

Hospital fires can be life-threatening, especially when hundreds of patients are involved. Implementing strict fire safety standards is not just a regulation—it’s a moral responsibility to protect the lives of patients, attendants, and healthcare workers.
