The Head of the Cardiothoracic Surgery Department at AIIMS-Patna emphasized the urgent need to understand and adopt AI in medical practice. According to him, AI tools can analyze medical images like X-rays, MRIs, and CT scans to detect cancer, heart disease, and neurological problems, even spotting patterns that doctors might miss.

For instance, AI-driven ECG machines now make it easier for even beginners to interpret heart activity correctly. The orthopaedics department at AIIMS-Patna has also started using robotic surgery to treat patients with higher precision and better outcomes.

AI to Detect TB in Rural Bihar

In a groundbreaking step, the state health department will use AI-powered handheld X-ray devices and mobile kits to screen tuberculosis (TB) patients across villages. These AI tools will not only help in quick detection of TB cases but also suggest personalized treatment protocols based on test data.

With nearly 2 lakh TB patients in Bihar and over 10,000 deaths in the last two years, this initiative aims to catch the disease early and reduce its spread.

The Director-in-Chief of Disease Control mentioned that this technology will speed up diagnosis and treatment planning for TB patients. Similarly, the doctor of NMCH called for the use of AI equipment at all state health centres to reduce treatment time and manage patient flow more effectively.
