In a heartfelt move, the Gujarat chapter of the Indian Medical Association (IMA) has written to Tata Sons chairman Mr. N. Chandrasekaran, requesting equal compensation for medical students who were injured or lost their lives during the recent Air India plane crash.
The letter was issued shortly after Air India announced a compensation of ₹1 crore for each passenger who died in the tragedy, along with funds for the renovation of the BJMC college hostel. While the IMA appreciated this generous support, it also highlighted an important gap—many medical students were also present at the crash site and suffered injuries or even death, yet no similar financial aid has been announced for them.
“These students were not only victims,” the IMA stated, “but also the future healthcare heroes of our country. Their families, and those who are recovering, deserve the same level of care and assistance.”
The letter was signed by, President of the IMA Gujarat chapter, along with other senior members of the association.
Why This Matters
Medical students often put their lives on the line to learn, serve, and grow into responsible doctors. In this tragic event, their dreams were cut short, and their families are left grieving. Equal financial aid would not only help ease their burden but also send a strong message of respect for India’s future healthcare professionals.
At The Doctorpreneur Academy, we stand in solidarity with the IMA’s appeal. As an institution committed to nurturing doctors as leaders and changemakers, we believe every effort should be made to support the medical community in times of need.
