Samsung Electronics is building something exciting in the world of digital health—a central hub where users can share their health data with doctors between visits. This move is expected to simplify how patients and doctors communicate and manage health goals, all powered by Samsung’s wearable devices like the Galaxy Watch.
What Is Samsung Working On?
According to Dr. Hon Pak, head of Samsung’s health division, the company is designing a system to:
- Collect health data from smartwatches
- Store it in one easy-to-access location
- Let users share this data directly with their doctors
- Remind users to follow their doctor’s advice and health goals
This will help bridge the gap between clinic visits and day-to-day health management, making healthcare more proactive and personalized.
New Features on Samsung Galaxy Watches
While the central health hub will take time to launch, Samsung has already introduced some smartwatch upgrades through its One UI 8 update, currently in beta in the US and South Korea:
- Antioxidant Level Monitoring: Place your fingertip on the watch sensor to get antioxidant readings. The watch can suggest diet changes, like eating berries to improve your health.
- Vascular Load Tracking: Tracks your pulse waves during sleep to assess arterial pressure and alert you to risks of heart problems or stroke.
- Running Coach Tool: Analyzes your performance and helps you train for races.
- Sleep Coaching: Suggests optimal sleep times based on your personal sleep patterns over the past few days.
These features are available on the Galaxy Watch 5 and newer models, helping users track deeper health metrics than ever before.
Why It Matters
Smartwatches are no longer just about notifications—they are turning into powerful health tools. With rising rates of chronic diseases, healthcare worker shortages, and the growing trend of at-home care, tools like Samsung’s health hub are more important than ever.
Dr. Pak pointed out:
“The burden is now on patients and families. So with that, we have to be in the home.”
That’s exactly what Samsung is aiming for—bringing healthcare into the home with advanced, easy-to-use technology.
What’s Next?
Samsung already has 68 million monthly users on its health platform and plans to add even more sensors in future devices, including smart earbuds. The company is also researching non-invasive ways to measure blood pressure and glucose levels, though those features may take a few more years to launch.
