Two of India’s top institutions—AIIMS Delhi and IIT Delhi—have officially partnered to launch a Centre of Excellence for Artificial Intelligence in Healthcare (AI-CoE) with funding support of ₹330 crore from the Ministry of Education.
This new centre will focus on developing AI-powered solutions to support national health programs and improve healthcare access, especially for underserved and rural communities.
The initiative is part of the government’s “Make AI in India, Make AI Work for India” mission, designed to create affordable, home-grown healthcare technology using artificial intelligence.

Both leaders expressed their excitement and confidence in the partnership, calling it a milestone in healthcare innovation.
“This MoU marks the beginning of far-reaching research that can transform healthcare in India,” said Prof. Srinivas.
“AIIMS and IIT Delhi together can make AI truly work for Indian healthcare,” added Prof. Banerjee.
