Naturopathy Education Needs Uniformity – Centre Calls for Standardization

The Indian government has acknowledged the need to bring uniformity in Naturopathy education, as different states follow different course durations and syllabi. Currently, students in states with five-year courses receive the title of “Doctor”, while those completing a four-year course do not. This inconsistency has led to confusion and inequality among Naturopathy practitioners.

During a discussion in the Rajya Sabha, the Minister of State for Health & Family Welfare confirmed the issue and assured that the government will work towards uniform rules, regulations, and a national registration system for Naturopathy education.

Why Standardization is Important?

The lack of a uniform curriculum and duration affects the credibility, recognition, and professional growth of Naturopathy practitioners. Standardization will:

✔ Ensure equal recognition for all graduates
✔ Improve quality of education and patient care
✔ Create a single national registration system
✔ Strengthen the Naturopathy healthcare system

Shortage of Ayush Medicines & Government Action

Another major challenge highlighted during the discussion is the shortage of Ayush medicines, especially in rural areas. Many Ayush doctors are forced to prescribe allopathic alternatives due to the unavailability of traditional medicines.

To tackle this, the government is working on:

🌿 Enhancing availability and affordability of Ayush medicines
🌍 Collaborating with 24 countries for research and development
🏥 Strengthening research institutions like:

  • Central Council for Research in Ayurvedic Sciences (CCRAS)
  • Central Council for Research in Yoga and Naturopathy (CCRYN)
  • Central Council for Research in Unani Medicine (CCRUM)
  • Central Council for Research in Siddha (CCRS)
  • Central Council for Research in Homoeopathy (CCRH)
