Kerala Launches Digital Payment and Online Health Services in Government Hospitals

The Kerala government has taken a big step towards making healthcare more digital, efficient, and patient-friendly. On April 7, the Health Minister of Kerela officially launched a series of digital health initiatives aimed at transforming how people access services in government hospitals across the state.

What’s New?

The following services are being introduced or expanded:

Digital Payment System

Now, patients can pay hospital service fees using:

  • Credit cards
  • Debit cards
  • UPI (like Google Pay, PhonePe)
  • Other digital payment methods

In the first phase, 313 government hospitals are equipped with digital payment options, and soon all hospitals in Kerala will have the system. This has been done in collaboration with the Information Kerala Mission and banks like State Bank of India and Canara Bank.

Online OP Ticket Booking

Patients can now book OP tickets online for doctor consultations at government hospitals.

  • Available at 687 e-health hospitals and 80+ health centres
  • Covers facilities from taluk hospitals to medical colleges
  • Accessible through:
    • Smartphones
    • Computers
    • Akshaya Centres

This means less waiting, quicker access, and more convenience for patients and doctors.

M-Health App

The new M-Health mobile app is a powerful tool for patients and families.

With the app, users can:

  • Access their digital health records
  • View prescriptions, lab reports, and appointment details
  • Use UHID number or mobile number to log in
  • Book OP tickets in advance

The app is available on Android smartphones and is designed to make healthcare more accessible and organized for the public.

Scan and Book System

Forgot to book an OP ticket in advance? No problem!

At the hospital, patients can now:

  • Scan a QR code displayed at the hospital entrance
  • Instantly book an OP ticket on their mobile phone
  • Avoid long queues at the registration counter

This is especially helpful for walk-in patients and emergency visits.

Why This Matters

These changes will:

  • Save time for both patients and healthcare workers
  • Make hospital visits more organized
  • Reduce crowds and waiting times
  • Promote transparency and digital health record-keeping

Kerala is setting a great example for digital healthcare transformation in India.

Digital tools in healthcare can improve efficiency and enhance patient care — and it begins with your support and awareness.
