Humble Beginnings in Himachal Pradesh
Dr. S. R. Sharma hails from a small village near Hamirpur, Himachal Pradesh. He completed his early education in a rural setting and had never imagined a future in medicine. However, inspired and supported by his family, especially his brother, who was a pharmacist, Dr. Sharma pursued his studies with dedication.
Medical Education and Early Career
After clearing his pre-medical entrance, Dr. Sharma was selected for MBBS at a reputed medical college in Punjab. He completed both MBBS and MS in General Surgery there. During his training, he developed a strong foundation in general surgery, also briefly exploring dermatology during his house job.
Service in the Government Sector
Dr. Sharma joined the Himachal Pradesh government healthcare services in the early 1980s. He was posted to various locations across the state, often in interior or remote areas. During his two decades of service, he performed a wide range of general and orthopedic surgeries, particularly during a time when specialists were not readily available in rural regions.
Transition to Private Practice
After 20 years of serving in government hospitals, Dr. Sharma chose to take voluntary retirement once his children were settled in their medical careers. He was motivated by the desire for stability and to avoid politically influenced transfers. Along with his wife, a gynecologist, he established a private setup in Solan, Himachal Pradesh.
Building a Family-Centric Medical Practice
His private practice grew steadily thanks to community support, trust, and ethical care. Over time, his son, also a general surgeon, joined the practice, creating a family-run healthcare service. His daughter is a pathologist working in a reputed diagnostic setup, and his daughter-in-law is a dermatologist, reflecting a strong medical legacy in the family.

Dr. Sharma emphasized keeping the cost of surgeries and treatments low to ensure accessibility for patients in and around Solan. His compassion, honesty, and service-first mindset earned him the trust of patients from multiple districts.

With time, Dr. Sharma upgraded his facilities, added new services, and ensured a high standard of patient care while maintaining ethical and transparent practices. His hospital became a trusted name in the region.
