The Gujarat government has taken a big step toward making India TB-free by signing an MoU with Lions Clubs International Foundation (LCIF). This partnership will help provide nutrition kits to tuberculosis (TB) patients in the state, ensuring they receive the essential food support needed for their recovery.
Why Nutrition is Important for TB Patients
Tuberculosis (TB) is a serious disease that weakens the immune system. While medical treatment is necessary, proper nutrition is equally important for faster recovery and better health. Many TB patients come from economically weaker sections and struggle to get enough nutritious food.
To support them, Nikshay Mitra, a government initiative, encourages voluntary organizations, corporate sectors, and individuals to provide nutrition kits to TB patients undergoing treatment.
Gujarat’s Commitment to a TB-Free India
Prime Minister Narendra Modi has set a goal of making India TB-free by 2025. The Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel has assured that with the help of voluntary organizations like Lions Clubs International, this vision can become a reality.
Under the Nikshay Mitra initiative, 10,555 volunteers have already registered on the Nikshay Portal, and over 3.49 lakh nutrition kits have been distributed to TB patients across the country.
Role of Lions Clubs International Foundation (LCIF)
With this new MoU, Lions Clubs International Foundation has committed to providing nutrition kits to all identified TB patients in Gujarat every month until their treatment is completed.
This step will ensure:
- Better health outcomes for TB patients
- Stronger immune systems to fight the disease
- Faster recovery and reduced complications
