The Kerala Government is getting ready to launch a first-of-its-kind Blood Bank Traceability App that will show real-time information about the availability of blood in hospitals across the state. This digital platform will help people quickly find the right blood type at the right time, which can be life-saving during emergencies.
What is the Blood Bank Traceability App?
This app will serve as a centralized software that connects all government and private blood banks across Kerala. People will be able to:
- Check real-time blood availability
- Find safe and suitable blood units
- Access this information from anywhere, anytime
A public portal is also being developed so that anyone in Kerala can easily search and find the blood they need, right from their phone or computer. According to Health Minister Veena George, this portal will be open to the public by the end of this year.
Who is Behind the Project?
This innovative project is being implemented by:
- K-DISC (Kerala Development and Innovation Strategic Council)
- Kerala State AIDS Control Society
- Blood Transfusion Council
- eHealth Kerala
All under the leadership of the Kerala Health Department.
It is also part of a larger mission to achieve 100% voluntary blood donation in Kerala.

- Digital traceability of blood bags – track blood from collection to transfusion
- Inclusion of rare blood types through the Kerala Rare Blood Donor Registry
- Pilot launch at Thiruvananthapuram General Hospital this month
- Full rollout expected across the state by the end of the year
