The Rajasthan State Health Department has made it mandatory for all diagnostic labs to get registered under the Clinical Establishments Act (CEA), 2010. This new push is aimed at regulating diagnostic laboratories and ensuring they follow proper standards for equipment, staff, and services.
🔍 What is the Clinical Establishments Act (CEA), 2010?
The CEA 2010 is a law that requires all types of clinical establishments—including diagnostic labs, hospitals, and clinics—to register and follow minimum standards related to infrastructure, human resources, and quality of services.
Despite this law being in place for several years, many diagnostic labs in Rajasthan have been operating without proper registration. This has led to non-compliance and quality concerns in the medical testing sector.
🚨 Action Against Unregistered Labs
According to the Additional Director (Hospital Administration), strict action will be taken against labs that fail to register under CEA 2010.
“We have directed all the chief medical health officers (CMHOs) to ensure that no lab operates without valid CEA registration,” he said.
🧪 What Labs Need to Do
The health department has started identifying unregistered labs and is encouraging them to apply for registration. Once the application is submitted, a health department team will inspect the labs to check if they meet all the requirements:
- Proper medical and diagnostic equipment
- Qualified human resources and technicians
- Compliance with safety and hygiene standards
Only after fulfilling all the conditions, the lab will receive CEA registration approval.
